CSO laud NERC boss on estimated bills stand

The Nigerian Regulatory Commission (NERC), Executive Chairman, Prof. James Momoh has been commended for his stands against estimated billing and availability of pre-paid meter.

The president, Civil Society Coalition for Transparency (CSCT), Comrade Mike Femi, in a statement in Abuja on Monday said the chairman’s vision and determination to take the Nigerian regulatory agency to the path of transparency is paying off.

Femi said for giving the Nigerian discos a matching order to make pre-paid meter available and accessible to all Nigerians.

“We want to Commend his various efforts which has brought great relief to an average Nigerian electricity consumers. Many people lived in blackouts cos they can not continue to pay for the estimated billing system of the discos.

“Estimated billing is a fraud and has inflicted hardship on Nigerians, but with the Meter Asset Provider policy in place, electricity consumers can now complete their request for a pre-paid meter online and once that is done they get their meter in maximum of 10 days which is applaudable,” he said.

He therefore urged Prof. Momoh to be focus and beware of saboteurs so as not to get distracted by their activities in an attempt to frustrate his efforts.l, assuring him of the coalition’s support and determine to work with him so as to achieve his dream for the Nigerian electricity regulatory body.
