Court sentences man to 28 months in prison for theft

A Grade 1 Area Court in Aso Pada, Mararaba, Nasarawa state, on Tuesday, sentenced an applicant, David Johnson, to 28 months in prison for stealing four litres of palm oil valued at N1, 500.
The Presiding Judge, Mr Albert Maga, sentenced Johnson, a resident of Gwantunamu, Mararaba, after he pleaded guilty.

Maga, however, gave the convict an option of N5, 000 fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, PC Friday Adaji, had told the court that Nasiru Mohammed of Tudun Wada Mararaba, had reported Johnson for stealing his palm oil.
Adaji said Mohammed reported the matter at the `A’ Division Police Station, Mararaba, on March 31.
The prosecutor said the convict entered Mohammed’s shop at Tudun Wada while he was eating and stole the oil before he was caught. (NAN)
