The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has confirmed that the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) is set to submit all required documents, including government guarantees, for its bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games before the November deadline.

The host nation for the 2030 Games will be determined at the CGF General Assembly in November.

So far, only Nigeria and India have met the August 31 deadline to formally declare their interest, with Abuja and Ahmedabad presented as their proposed host cities. Both countries sent high-level delegations to the CGF headquarters in London to present detailed hosting plans.

According to gamesbids.com, Nigeria’s delegation engaged the Federation in talks on Abuja’s hosting ambitions, candidate city requirements, timelines, and other expectations.

Earlier, Canada had expressed interest but withdrew due to financial challenges, while Australia pulled out of the 2026 Games, forcing Victoria to pay penalties. The withdrawal eventually cleared the way for Glasgow, Scotland, to step in as emergency host.

This latest move marks Nigeria’s second attempt to host the Games, following its failed 2014 bid in which Abuja lost to Glasgow by 47–24 votes. Unlike then, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has already shown strong support for the project, though final formal approval from his office is still pending.
