Clergy, group call for removal of Rivers CP

Reverend Adime Ukale of the New Testament Assembly International in Obiakpor local government area of  Rivers state  Tuesday took a swipe at the Nigeria police saying: “Nigeria Police in Rivers state have woefully failed in the discharge of their duty.”

In a chat with our correspondent on the current security situation in Rivers state, he said allegations levied against the Nigeria Police in Port Harcourt imply that the security apparatus of the state is imminent.

The man of God stated  that the police who are supposed to obey the rule of law and protect the citizens wage war against those whom they ought to protect. He  added that so many complaints and information against the police shows that the law enforcement agency can no longer protect those residing in the state.

He further stated that it is not right for the police to be involved in armed robbery, kidnapping and killing of innocent persons if the story making the rounds is true.

He said the Inspector General of Police (IGP) should be up and doing to save the agency. He also urged Governor Yemson Wike  as the chief security officer of the state to do something to save lives and property of citizens of the state.

A coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSO)  also called  on the IGP, Muhammed Adamu , to redeploy the Rivers state commissioner of Police, Mestpha Dandaura, over the death of a mechanic, Ikwunado Chima.

Chima reportedly died in a police cell after he was arrested alongside four of his friends.

The CSOs urged the Police Service Commission (PSC) to terminate appointments of members of the Eagle Crack team involved in the reported torture of Chima and four others : Ifeanyi Onyekwere, Victor Ogbonna, Osaze Friday and Ifeanyi Osuji.
