The Edo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has screened and cleared aspirants for its July 21 party primaries ahead of the August 16, 2025, National Assembly by-elections for Edo Central Senatorial District and Ovia Federal Constituency.
In Ovia Federal Constituency seat, only one aspirant, Johnny Ikponmwosa Aikpitanyi, was screened and cleared as the party’s sole candidate.
Three aspirants were, however, cleared for Edo Central Senatorial ticket – John Yakubu, Friday Itulah, and Joe Okojie.
The Chairman of the PDP Screening Committee, Prof. Okumoko Tubo Pearce, presented the certificates of clearance to the aspirants on Friday at the Edo PDP Secretariat in Benin City.
Speaking on behalf of other aspirants, Aikpitanyi after receiving his clearance certificate commended the Committee for their professionalism, diligence, and fairness in the discharge of their duties.
Blueprint recalls that the seats became vacant following the election of the occupiers, Senator Monday Okpebholo and Hon. Dennis Idahosa as governor and deputy governor.
