Buhari won’t destabilise labour movement – Oshiomhole

Newly elected chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole yesterday said President Muhammadu Buhari will not destabilise the labour movement as he believed in the unity of the Nigerian workers.
Comrade Oshiomhole who spoke when NLC delegation led by its President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, paid him a courtesy visit said the president would not support any elements in government to weaken the labour movement.
“President Buhari believes in the unity of Nigerian workers and he will not lay supports to any elements that may wish to use state instrument weaken or factionlise labour.
I am in the position to say that because I know his positions on those issues.
He believes in the unity of Nigerians and that requires that we have more pan Nigeria organisations like organised labour across the divide.” Speaking further, the APC chairman said labour is his primary constituency that made him who he is today, adding that APC is a secondary constituency.
He also assured the labour movement and workers for a better welfare, adding that “President Buhari is concerned about the downtrodden in the society.” While commending the NLC for standing by him at all times, he said “I don’t know the right word to use to express my gratitude or appreciation through you to the organised Labour for standing by me over the years.
Sometimes when I reflect I say to myself that spoken or not, the fact is that you identify and the NLC has continued to identify with me long I completed my tenure at the NLC.” “We have just finished the convention, you attended my declaration event and your presence there even as you did not need to make a statement shows that I have a constituency behind me.
So you have always been there and I am very grateful, but I also want to assure that I can’t have another primary constituency except the organised labour.
Speaking earlier, Comrade Wbba thanked President Buhari for the confidence reposed on Oshiomhole, saying the fact that he was elected unopposed spoke volumes and expressed the confidence that Oshiomhole would “do all us proud and the working class.
