The remains of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari arrived on Tuesday at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina State, under tight security and amid solemn scenes.
Buhari, who died on Sunday at a clinic in the United Kingdom at the age of 82, will be laid to rest later today in his hometown of Daura in accordance with Islamic rites.
A government delegation comprising a nine-man committee established by President Bola Tinubu was on hand to receive the body. The committee includes top government officials, religious leaders, and representatives of the Armed Forces.
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, dressed in black, also arrived earlier to pay her respects.
A military ceremonial salute was observed at the airport before the funeral convoy departed for Daura, where final burial arrangements are ongoing.
The Federal Government has declared a period of national mourning. Tributes have been pouring in from around the world, celebrating Buhari’s leadership legacy as both a former military head of state and two-term civilian president.
