Adamawa state government yesterday banned night markets in the state as a measure to address incessant bomb explosions which in the past had claimed several lives.
The measure was adopted after a security meeting chaired by Governor Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla following Tuesday’s bomb attack on a tipper garage on Jimeta bye-pass.

Addressing journalists shortly after the security meeting, Governor Jibrilla pleaded with the marketers to bear with the government as the measure was taken in the interest of protecting innocent lives.
“Henceforth, all markets in the state should not operate before 6pm, including beer parlours and other social clubs, as measures have been taken to safeguard life and property,” he said.

He noted that the government is planning to convene a security summit where top security apparatchik would be invited to address the some of the thorny security matters to completely nip the security challenge in the bud.
Jibrilla reiterated that his government had been providing free medical attention to the victims of the attack and ensuring adequate availability of drugs to the victims.

He added that the government would also liaise with commercial banks and filling stations across the state to come up with modalities on how to secure their customers.
He, however, denied raping the mother as alleged.
“I used to give the girl N10, N20, N5 or buy sweet, biscuits for her in a nearby shop. I don’t know what came over me that day; I took her to nearby corner to commit this. I am not happy with what I have done because I am also married with children,” he said.
