Bogoro charges varsities on tetfund intervention

The executive secretary of tertiary education trust fund (TETFUND), Professor Suleiman Elias Bogoro, has charged universities in Nigeria on the judicious use of intervention funds allotted to their institutions, to ensure the realization of the core mandate of the agency.

Professor Bogoro, who made the call yesterday in Abuja, during the meeting of the various committees under the TETFund Research fund, affirmed the readiness of the management to remove all bottlenecks affecting the drawing of the fund by the various institutions of higher learning.
‘’we have expanded the intervention frontiers through research, and the training of academic staff, which is visionary, to ensure TETFUND become the most imp active interventionist fund in Nigeria’’, he said

The TETFund helmsman further identified problems militating access to the fund to include poor quality of research proposals being presented, the attitude of beneficiaries towards due process, numerous interventionists request and applications, and other factors.
Earlier the chairman of the research committee and member of the board of TETFund, Professor Pat Donli disclosed that out of 150 proposals received last year, only 18 were approved and had their funds disbursed, and that this year, over 109 research proposals have been received so far awaiting screening .She further disclosed that the research fund committee has three major subdivisions including: Science and intervention, Humanities and Social Science, and Cross ethics.

The chairman of the board of trustees of TETFund, Dr. Babayo, in his speech challenged university academics to come with research proposals that bring about scientific breakthroughs. He assured that the board and management of the fund will continue to discharge their duties and obligations in the most transparent manner
