Benue shuts down activities for 2 weeks

Benue state government Tuesday announced partial closure of government activities for two weeks in respect of COVID-19 pandemic.

Briefing newsmen after the Benue state emergency executive council meeting at the Government House, Secretary to the State Government, Tony Ijohor said all civil servants from grade levels 1-12 had been directed to remain at home in the next two weeks except those on essential services.

Ijohor also said it was also agreed in the meeting that no visitors will be allowed into the Government House within the same period.

According to him, isolation centres for cases of COVID-19 will be created each at Benue North-East and Benue South senatorial districts to complement the two existing ones in Benue North-East senatorial district.

He also stated that the state executive council also appealed to the State Electoral Commission (BSIEC)  to shift the local government election scheduled to hold next Saturday, 28 March for two weeks.

Earlier, Governor Samuel Ortom pleaded with those who may have had contact with those who tested positive elsewhere in the country but are now in Benue to present themselves for isolation and examination by medical experts.
