A member representing Oju/Obi federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon David Ogewu, has assured his constituents that he would do everything humanly possible to see that human capital development is put at the front burner of his legislative engineering. The lawmaker gave the assurances when a group of reporters spoke with him in his office recently.
Ogewu on the mandate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), lamented that his constituency has suffered neglect over time due to poor and ineffective representation in the last twenty years and pledged to make the difference at the lower chamber of the legislature.
Ogewu further stated that his role in the House is to ensure that all the mistakes of the past are corrected so that an average Igede man is given his fair share in the scheme of things. He lamented the level of marginalisation facing his constituents both at the state and federal levels and appealed to those in authority to give fairness and justice needed attention.
“The rate of unemployment and underdevelopment of my people is second to none in Nigeria and that is what is pushing me. Ordinarily, if previous members representing my constituency were committed to addressing the problems, I wouldn’t have challenged anybody at the recent poll but when the reverse is the case, why should I leave things to chance?” he said.
Ogewu said he is duty bound to lobby for employment opportunities for his constituents in federal ministries and parastatals when opportunities come while assuring that he will leave no stone unturned to achieve this.
On his tribunal case coming up soon, he is optimistic that God who brought him to the National Assembly as representative will not let him down, saying: “I am genuinely concerned about the plight of an Igede man and my people gave me mandate as expressed during the election. I am therefore not worried about the outcome of the forth coming judgement”.
Blueprint recalled that INEC had declared and presented Hon Ogewu certificate of return as the winner of the Oju/Obi federal constituency election but his opponent, Hon Samson Okwu of the PDP is challenging the victory.
