The Arewa Youths Assembly for Good Leadership (AYAGL) has condemned what it described as a sponsored smear campaign against the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, saying the “attacks are politically motivated and ultimately targeted at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
In a statement signed by its Speaker, Comrade Abdul Danbature, the group said attempts to discredit the minister were meant to undermine a leader who has demonstrated unwavering commitment to national security and the welfare of Nigerians.
“His leadership at the Defence Ministry has been marked by professionalism, transparency, and a clear vision for strengthening Nigeria’s military. These baseless attacks should be condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians,” the statement read.
The group noted that since his appointment, Badaru had worked tirelessly to improve coordination among security agencies, modernize military infrastructure, and enhance the welfare of soldiers.
“Through his efforts, the military has secured better funding, improved equipment, and enhanced operational efficiency. His strategic approach has strengthened Nigeria’s defense capabilities and positioned the country as a key player in regional security,” Danbature said.
He added that Badaru’s leadership had also improved diplomatic ties with neighboring countries and international partners, recognizing that security challenges often transcend borders.
The group described the allegations against the minister as an attempt to distract from the progress recorded under his watch, urging Nigerians to reject what it called “politically motivated propaganda.”
“We firmly believe these attacks are driven by ulterior motives. Those behind them do not have Nigeria’s best interests at heart. Rather than focusing on divisive politics, Nigerians should support the ongoing efforts to strengthen national security,” Danbature stated.
He reaffirmed AYAGL’s confidence in Badaru’s leadership, urging him to remain focused on his mandate.
“We stand by him and reject any attempt to discredit his efforts. Nigeria’s security and stability must remain a priority,” he added.
