As the race to secure the presidential ticket of All Progressives Congress (APC) gets tougher, it appears the former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar is gradually heading for victory, if the outcome of the polls by an online news medium-The Cable, is to be relied on.
The online poll conducted by the media organisation and monitored by our correspondent in Abuja at the weekend, the news medium asked readers to vote on who should be APC’s presidential candidate out of all the aspirants who have shown interest in the APC ticket for the 2015 presidential election.
Other major contenders for the ticket are; former Head of State Gen. Mohammadu Buhari, Kano state Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha, Publisher of the Leadership Newspapers, Mr. Sam Nda Isaiah and the new entrant and the Speaker House of Representative, Hon. Aminu Wasiri Tanbuwal.
The result of the poll as at yesterday morning showed Alhaji Atiku leading with 32% of the votes, closely followed by General Mohammadu Buhari, who scored 30%, while the Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha came third with 21%.
Tambuwal, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress, from his former party ,the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came behind Governor Okorocha, with only 4% of the voters in the poll considered all the aspirants as not suitable for the ticket and the contest.
It would be recalled that the APC had scheduled their presidential ticket primaries for December 8, as the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms closed on Friday November 14, but Blueprint reliably gathered that the party was planning to shift the date to December 14, to allow PDP finish its primaries.
