At least 40 Nigerians ‘deported’ from Italy

By Awaal Gata At least 40 Nigerians have reportedly been deported from Italy for committing various off ences in that country, reports say. According to Woleshadare. net, spokesperson for the Lagos airport, Police Commander Joseph Alabi confi rmed the development, saying that 39 of the deportees were alleged to have “committed immigrationrelated off ences while one of them was allegedly involved in drug dealing”. Th e deportees were received by offi cers of the Nigerian Immigration Service, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffi cking in Persons, and the police. A Premium Times report said that thousands of Nigerians travelled to Italy annually via Libya and the Mediterranean seeking greener pastures. While some of the travellers made it to Italy where they were treated as refugees, many were trapped in Libya while some others died while crossing the Mediterranean, the report said.
