Arewa youth calls for Culture Minister’s resignation

Arewa Youth Development Association (AYDA) has called for the resignation of Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Ms Hannatu Musa Musawa, over the controversy that trailed her appointment as a serving National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) member.

Hannatu Musa Musawa was still undergoing the compulsory service year when she was appointed as minister.

This, AYDA has said wasagainst the Nigerian Constitution and the NYSC Act, thus, she should resign and be prosecuted in line with the law of the land.

National President of AYDA, Comrade Imrana Nas, told journalists in Kaduna that, “The Arewa Youth Development Association, which is made up of prominent patriots from Northern Nigeria, calls for the immediate resignation and prosecution of Ms. Hannatu Musa Musawa as the Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for going against the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the regulations of the NYSC.”

Addressing a press conference in Kaduna on Thursday, Nas noted that “AYDA expresses serious concerns regarding the controversies surrounding Ms. Hannatu Musawa’s appointment as a minister. It is a surprise that the security agencies and the Senate failed in their duty to scrutinise her qualification adequately, raising questions about the credibility of the screening process.

“The primary issue has to do with Ms. Musawa’s incomplete NYSC programme, which is in violation of relevant laws and the Constitution.

“Her appointment should be considered voidable under these circumstances. The Arewa Youth Development Association commended the efforts of pressure groups that have taken legal action against this appointment and we declare our full support for their cause. Let me emphasize the importance of upholding the rule of law in this matter.

“Furthermore, the relevant sections of the NYSC Act deems it illegal for anyone to govern without completing the NYSC, or partially abandoning the national service. So, we want to call on President Bola Tinubu to relieve Ms. Hannatu Musawa of her ministerial appointment and initiate criminal prosecution against her.

“We urge President Tinubu to prioritize the interests of Nigeria and take immediate action to resolve this controversy, drawing parallels with previous cases involving former ministers. Considering the gravity of the situation, we call for swift resolution.”
