ANA factions announce convention dates

The last of the crisis in the Association of the Nigerian Authors (ANA) has definitely not been heard as each of its two factions has announced a date for the 2020 edition of its national convention.

The country’s largest literary group slipped into crisis in November last year after a botched general election.

Following the disagreements, the feuding parties factionalised the association with Ahmed Maiwada heading one and Camillus Ukah heading the other, indicating that Nigerian writers are going to enjoy two conventions in a year for the first time in history.

While the Ukah-led faction as slated the annual ritual for Ilorin, Kwara state between December 3 and 6, the Maiwada group will hold their own in Awka, Anambra state between December 10 and 12.

With Prof Ogaga Okuyade from Delta State University serving as Keynote Speaker, the convention theme of the Maiwada-led faction is: “Nigerian Literatures and Restoration: A Return to the Source.”

“Literature as a Catalyst for National Development” is the theme favoured by Ukah’s faction.

The guest speaker is Prof Raheem Adebayo, a leading scholar of languages and linguistics.
