Amotekun: group warns PDP against ‘toxic politics’ in South-west

The Centre for Sustained Dialogue Nigeria has condemned the reaction of Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), to the announcement of Chief Amitolu Shittu as the Director General of Amotekun in the state, calling it a toxic and unacceptable for the development of western region.

In a statement signed by the  Executive Director of the group,   Engr. Hakeem Omotosho, the group insisted that the conviction of governor Gboyega Oyetola to appoint the foremost rights activist is in the best interest of the people and every security  conscious citizen of the state must rally round the newly established security network to achieve its objectives.

According to the group, “This is no time to play toxic politics, this is no time to play to the gallery, it will be unacceptable in the Western region to raise alarm of smoke where there is no fire, Comrade Amitolu Shittu track record in Human Rights community in Nigeria speaks for him, and his effort as a critical stakeholders as Chairman of PCRC in Osun State and Secretary of PCRC in the Western Region is a guarantee that he is a round peg in round hole and it will be in our collective interest to rally round him rather than vilifying him.

The group stated further that the effort to secure the region transcend political party and there is no time to drag feet and engage in toxic politics as security of life and property of the people should be a statewide agenda of all.

While congratulating the people of the state, the group insisted that security by all will act as a shield for all, and their cooperation will make Amotekun “a security of the people by the people and for the people.”
