AMAC names streets after ex-AGF Sofola, Yemi Kale, others  

A constitutional lawyer and former Attorney General of the Federation, the late Kehinde Sofola, SAN, has been penciled down among other illustrious Nigerians for honours by the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), which will strategic streets in the FCT named after them for their contributions to national development.

A statement issued by Mr. Peter Ijwo, Director of Operations of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) made available to Blueprint Thursday, stated that the selected Nigerians have contributed immensely to national development and impacted positively on lives of Nigerians and the society worthy of emulation.

Besides the late constitutional lawyer and former Attorney General of the Federation, the late Kehinde Sofola, his first son, Mr. Kayode Sofola, SAN, who was a former Chairman Tax Appeal Tribunal and Bank for Africa; and Darlin Sofola, the late philanthropist and humanist, have been recommended for the honour.

Also to be honoured is Dr. Yemi Kale, a former Statistician General of the Federation. 

“There is no iota of doubt that their names should be written in gold and they should be accorded due recognition in the society for their contributions and sacrifices to Nigeria nation. 

“The designation and street naming is hereby set for gazette with the activities lined up for the programmes to be communicated to the general public,” the statement by the Director of Operations, submitted.

According to him the honour is “pursuant to the provision of Section 7 and 4th Schedule of the 1999 Constitution (L.G. Act CAP T2, LFN OO4 and House Numbering Bye Laws) No. 11 2012 of Abuja Municipal Area Council (as amended), which vested constitutional and statutory powers on the Council regarding street naming, designation and numbering.”
