Jigawa state government has commenced probing the immediate past PDP government under Alhaji Sule Lamido for allegedly withdrawing the sum of N8 billion from the account of the Ministry for Local Government after the 2015 elections where the APC defeated the PDP.
The state Governor, Muhammad Badaru, who disclosed this while speaking to Radio France International Hausa service, alleged that the money was withdrawn very close to the handover day to the elected government.
He noted that the government uncovered the scam through investigation, pointed out that a panel had been set up to find out more facts on the act.
‘’ We have formed a committee to investigate the allegation , though, it is an allegation for now, but it has the elements of truth, but in order to be fair to those involved , the committee has been directed to thoroughly investigate the issue to the latter and present its reports to the government for necessary action.
Badaru vowed that any body found involved in this cheat, whoever he or she was, will face the full weight of the law pointing out government will report some of them to ICPC while other will be arraign before the court of law directly.
He denied the allegation that the probe was a witch-hunt, stating that investigation will prove either right or wrong and will exonerate those who have no hand in the scam.
When contacted, the state secretary of the People Democratic Party (PDP) debunks the allegation, saying that it showed the weakness of Badaru’s government, adding that the allegation “exposes the failure to fulfill its promises made during campaign to work for the people who voted them into power.
‘’ It is a diversionary tactics of the APC government, to accused government of Lamido of stashing away public funds to the tune of N8billion, it is a mare joke and deceit, we are waiting to see, we are not afraid of any probe, we have our facts and figures of all income and expenditures,’’ Ali Tukur Gantsa stated.
