Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong has begged soccer loving Nigerians not to relent in their support for the team.
The Super Eagles held the Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea to a 1-1 draw in their first game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
Troost-Ekong expressed gratitude to the fans for their support and urged them to rally behind the team ahead of their subsequent games in the competition.
“I just want to say thank you for the support for the guys that came out there,” the centre-back said after the game.
”Of course, we’re disappointed; we feel the same way as you guys, we wanted to win today, but I think we have to look at the positives.
“We created a lot of chances, and on another day we would have won that game, and will be very motivated Thursday. Don’t give up on us.”
Ekong and his team mates will hope to put smiles on faces of Nigeria when they confront host Cote D’Ivoire on Thursday.
