Gombe state governor, Yahaya Inuwa, has said there is an urgent need for ‘swift, sure, and fair administration of justice’ to tame the challenges facing the country.
The governor said Nigeria needs an incorruptible judiciary where justice can be dispensed to every class in society without discrimination.
The governor made the advocacy at the swearing-in of Hon. Justice Halima Sadiyya Mohammed as the new Chief Judge, High Court of Justice, in the state, Wednesday.
He said: “These challenges facing our dear nation cannot be tamed without ensuring the swift, sure, and fair administration of justice. We require an incorruptible judiciary where justice shall be dispensed to all people in the state without discrimination, fear, or favour.
“It is undeniable that unbridled corruption, violent crimes, and numerous other forms of criminal behaviour have bedeviled our nation, making it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to meet our development aspirations and consolidate our constitutional democracy.
Inuwa described the new chief judge as a “woman of roundtable legal expertise” and said she has been a source of inspiration to the younger generation.
He said her wealth of experience will help the state to fight crime and other social vices.
“Hon. Justice Halima Sadiyya Mohammed is a woman of redoubtable legal expertise, outstanding experience, strong character, and remarkable integrity, who will continue to serve as a source of inspiration to our daughters.
“As an experienced jurist, I do not doubt that she has what it takes to impact positively on the administration of justice in Gombe state. We believe that she will discharge her duties in this new role with utmost commitment and integrity, as she has always done for the benefit of our dear state.
“The importance of having such judicial officers with high levels of experience and moral rectitude at this moment in our national history cannot be over-emphasised,” he said.
