The outgoing Governor of Gombe state Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo has debunked reports that the state has a debt profile of N110 billion as at December 2018.
The Transition Committee set up by the Gombe State Governor-elect, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had indicted the Dankwambo’s administration for leaving behind a huge liability for the incoming governor of the state.
According to the transition committee the debt includes local, national and foreign.
However, Dankwambo during a valedictory session of the state executive council said, “As at today the 28th day of May, we do not owe any commercial bank in the state. No single bank”.
On national and foreign borrowings and liabilities, Dankwambo said: “All the loans are loans that do not go to the consolidated revenue funds we cannot be accountable for such loans. Because section 162 of the constitution says we are only accountable for loans in our consolidated revenue.
“These are for projects that was done by the federal government on our behalf, so we have very little to say about foreign loans. But, since our inception, we have not borrowed any money that comes to the consolidated revenue for the development of the state,” Dankwambo said.
He also directed members of the state executive council which was devolved immediately after the meeting, to be ready and available to support or assist the incoming administration in whichever way their services are needed.
