Day Niger gov decorated gallant super cops

AIDELOJE OJO writes that it was a spectacular ceremony last Monday, when Governor Sani Bello of Niger state, squeezed out time from his busy schedules and decorated principal officers of the state police command, which created enduring memories of colours, pomp and excitement
Spectacular occasion It is rare for a governor to set aside other duties to decorate police officers not attached to his office.
However, when Governor Abubakar Sani Bello rushed to decorate principal officers of the state police command last Monday, more colours were added to the ceremony.
The governor stepped forward and took the centre stage of the crowd of officers and families of the state police command at the police officers mess in Minna, on Tuesday last week.
Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Tasiu Sale Kore, emerged from the crowd, marched forward and gave a complimentary salute before planting himself at alert in-between the governor and the state Commissioner of police, Paul Yakadi.
Songs of joy The governor reached out for Kore’s shoulder, removed the pip starched to his uniform and fix the new rank to pronounce the officer as Chief Superintendent of Police.
The elevated officer took a step backward and gave another salute to herald the completion of his decoration by the Chief Security Officer of the state.
Another roll call was made and the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Mohammed Dan-Inna Abubakar and his colleague Abdullahi Bature the Personal Assistant (PA) to the Commissioner of police, stepped forward in turn for the decoration formalities confirming them promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
The crowd of wives and children of promoted officers as well as wishers yelled in admiration with songs of joy to mark the peak of the decoration of the 42 officers recently promoted by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Idris Kpetu Ibrahim in the command.
Meritorious service Our correspondent learnt that the presence of Governor Bello to personally decorate these principal officers including his ADC Murtala Raji, who was also promoted to the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) was not only to honour and recognize the meritorious service of the officers but to also show government appreciation for the selfless sacrifice of gallant officers of the command in securing and maintaining peace and tranquility in the state.
Governor Bello alluded to this when he poured out encomiums on the state commissioner of police, D.
P Yakadi for drastically reducing crime and criminalities in the state.
According to the governor, Niger state was peaceful because of the diligent and efficient performance of police officers in the state adding that “however the police will perform better if they are better equipped and motivated.
No haven for criminals in Niger state However, the state commissioner of police, D P Yakadi was more engrossed in joyous celebration mood when he spoke to journalists.
The commissioner attested to the fact that he had seen many of this kind of event but has not seen any state where a governor attached the level of passion shown by Governor Bello to honour the promoted officers in appreciating the much they command has done.
This gesture, Yakadi said can only be reciprocated by redoubled effort on the part of police in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities.
While assuring the people of the state of adequate protection of lives and properties, CP Yakadi urged them to always volunteer useful information in the fight against criminals.
According to him, “there is no haven for criminals in Niger state.
We are taking proactive actions to smoke them out of their dens.
We have made lots of successes to rid the state of criminal elements and I can therefore assure that the state will continue to be peaceful.
Red carpets Our correspondent did not however lost sight of the gallant officers for whom the red carpets were rolled out on this auspicious occasion.
The profile of the promoted principal officers of the command was tracked and the result was quite revealing and interesting.
It will be necessary to peep into the profile of these officers whose decoration attracted encomiums and garlands from the state governor out of the very tight schedules at Government House.
Roll call First on the roll call was the commandant PMF 12 Minna, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Tasiu Sale Kore with intimidating profile that speaks of selfless gallant service to the force and humanity in general.
Born on 1st January 1973, Kore nrolled into the Police Academy Kano in 1994 as cadet inspector and got posted to Kaduna police command where he began his career in 1997.
Raised by family as a sympathetic and milk hearted boy, Kore soon realized that soon realized that to succeed in the force one has to combine intelligence with action.
He told our correspondent that training and various combat courses groomed him to become fearless combatant young police officer making remarkable achievements within 23 years in service.
It is pertinent to point out that as DSP, Kore as a commander led a unit of Nigeria formed police contingent to the United Nation African Mission in Dafun (UNAMID) Sudan II Zalingie, from 2010 to 2011 where he excelled in showcasing the image of Nigeria Police Force (NPF) as the best in the word.
Due to excellent performance at the mission, commanders from other nations named him “small but mighty” when compared with some of them that were Generals while he was regarded as Nigeria police captain.
He came home with United Nations commendation.
