The Bauchi state Primary Health Care Development Agency has disclosed that no fewer than four cases of Lassa fever had been discovered in January, this year.
Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Rilwanu Muhammad, disclosed this Friday in an interview with journalists.
Nuhammad said the cases were recorded in two local government areas of the state at the beginning of the year declaring however that his Agency “is doing everything humanly possible to ensure that the outbreak was controlled so that it will not spread to other places.”
He said officials of the Agency in collaboration with other health related agencies were going round the state to educate the people on the need to immediately report to the nearest health facility for care “as soon as they notice any of the symptoms of the disease.”
Mohammed said epidemiological department of the Ministry of Health “is on awareness campaign across the state to educate the people on steps to be taken to prevent the disease.”
On his part, the Chief Medical Director of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Dr. Alkali Mohammed, said as at Wednesday, the hospital had three patients receiving treatment for Lassa fever.
“Yes, we have three people diagnosed and confirmed to have Lassa fever; they are presently receiving treatment at the isolation center of the hospital. We keep them there, treat and observe them to see how they are responding to treatment.”
