CSOs rally support for Kyari, defend reforms

A coalition of civil society organisations under the aegis of Good Governance Initiative for Development (GGID) has denounced the recent calls for the removal of the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL),Mele Kyari, describing the protests as “a politically-motivated effort to undermine crucial reforms.”

A statement by the GGID coordinator, Comrade Yunusa Kabir Mohammed, noted that Kyari’s tenure had driven transformative changes in the oil sector, enhanced NNPCL’s operations by transitioning it into a limited liability company and fortifying the fight against oil theft.

Highlighting Kyari’s alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, GGID noted that “recent petroleum sector reforms have stabilised product availability and economic growth.”

The group urged President Tinubu to ignore the calls for Kyari’s dismissal, emphasising that such demands would threaten to reverse critical industry gains.
