3 dead, cars set ablaze as petrol laden tanker explodes in Ogun


No fewer than 3 people have been confirmed dead as several cars set ablaze when a Petro laden tanker lost control at the Kuto bridge in Abeokuta, before going up in flames.


The incident which occured Tuesday at about 7:50am had about 9 casualties in total, with about 7 cars, 5 motorcycles got burnt while about 6 people were seriously injured and receiving treatment at the hospital.


An eye witness, Adekunle Gabriel, who was rushing to GT bank for his BVN registration explained that he saw the tanker coming from NNPC-Oke Mosan Road, but all of the sudden he noticed that the tanker lost control while coming down from the overhead bridge.


He further stated that the tanker squeezed one motorcycle that was on high motion and later hit some cabs that  are alighting and looking for passengers by the road side.


The Commissioner for Special Duties, Barr. Femi Ogunbanwo who visited the scene informed that the rescued victims have been taken to hospital and are been treated on government expenses.


He also assured that investigation is on going on the cause of the incident to avert reoccurrence.


As at the time of filing this report, some officials of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) were seen at the spot controlling the traffic and directing them to another route.
