26 suspected COVID-19 cases negative, 4 results awaited in Benue



The Benue State Action Committee on COVID-19, Sunday disclosed that results of a total of 27 samples collected from suspects all came out negative except the index case.

The COVID-19 action committee also said the state was still awaiting results of four other suspected cases whose samples had been taken and sent for test.

The state Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Ongbabo, who also double as secretary to the committee, while briefing newsmen in Makurdi, said the committee is also following the cases of 10 persons who came into the state from Spain, Italy, U.K and Malaysia.

He said in Makurdi, a total of 13 suspected cases investigated came out negative.

Ongbabo also disclosed that an internally displaced person from Abagena camp whose sample was taken and sent for testing also came out negative, although he later died.

According to him, the 25 contacts of the index case  were supervised in self isolation and were all discharged by 12th of April, 2020 with the exception of one who ran away, saying all their results came out negative. 

“In Ushongo, we had three outings, one suspected case from Ikov who came from Lagos tested negative. We have taken sample of suspect in Ushongo town who came from Kaduna. We are dispatching it for national reference lab tomorrow. The third case was that of a suspected case who clinically appears to been having cough of cardiac failure origin. The sample has been collected and the person moved to Lessel for isolation,” he said.

He said the committee is also expecting one result from Gboko and Konshisha,  noting that two others from Gboko earlier taken came out negative.

He urged members of the public to observe safety rules and report all suspected cases of COVID -19 to the relevant authorities.
