2019: PDP set for coalition, plans name change

The leading opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is prepared to form a coalition with some other political parties to dethrone the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the saddle. Also, the party may be planning to change its name as part of the new efforts to rejig and reposition to wrestle power from the ruling APC. Blueprint Newspapers gathered that coalition was of the agenda of the 79th National Executive Committee (NEC) “emergency meeting” which took place at the party Headquarters, yesterday in Abuja.
We also confirmed that, the issue of coalition was discussed behind closed doors, but some members of the NEC kicked against it. From all indication many people who defected are planning to return back to the party and some other political parties want to form a coalition with the PDP. Meanwhile, in his remarks during the open session of the NEC, the party national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, gave a clue when he said “because of this challenge, we have taken it upon ourselves as the leading opposition party to broaden our scope, open our doors and allow ideas to flow in for a more robust democratic development. He also stated that, “we therefore, invitee our brother, sister, youths and women from other political parties in this platform to join us to rescue our country that is in distress, socially, politically, economically and security wise.
In this country today over 3.1m citizens are languishing in various IDPs across the country yet we are not at war with any country. Secondus revealed that “consultations have taken us to meet with various interest groups who are willing to do business with us and I can report to you that it has very fruitful. We expect in coming days to have a broader political family working dedicatedly to rescue this democracy and our beloved country from the hands of APC.
“Moving from an opposition party to a governing party comes with growing pains. And, well, we’re feeling those growing pains today. Doing big things is hard. All of us. All of us, myself included, we will need time to reflect on how we got to this moment, what we could have done to do it better, he added. He also confirmed that, “Former President and Leaders of Nigeria are in unionism to make sure that come 2019 a fresh and new government is formed in the interest of our nation”.
