Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), Kaduna state chapter has tasked all registered political parties in the country to give women free forms to vie for elective positions. Addressing a one day sensitization programme to encourage women participation in politics, Kaduna state Chairman of CNPP, Alhaji Umar Farouk said that the time has come to have more women representatives. He tasked women to have the courage of contesting all elective positions, while urging them, “don’t sell your seat and don’t compromise your positions”. Representative of the National Democratic Institute (NDI), Hajiya Halima Abubakar, in her welcome address, said that the programme was intended to encourage women to participate in politics. She said NDI was pleased to discover that some political parties have indicated their resolve to support women politicians, pointing out that, women are now conscious of the political arena more than ever before. “Women have decided to be part of leadership position. That is the more reason we in NDI are supporting women to seek for political offices in 2019.” President of the Kaduna state Women Network Consultative Forum, Zulai Bello stated that the main focus of the forum is woman. “We want to see more women in politics, more women in leadership positions, more women in business arena.” The workshop was organised by Kaduna Women Network Consultative Forum (KWNCF) supported by National Democratic Institute (NDI).
