Vice President Kashim Shettima Monday said unity is essential for Nigeria’s growth.
Consequently, he urged leaders to take inspiration from the natural convergence of the Rivers Niger and Benue in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital.

He stated this during a town hall meeting at Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja, marking Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s first anniversary in office.
“The coming together of these rivers represents how individual efforts can join forces to overcome challenges and build a prosperous future.

“As water becomes stronger when it merges, so too must we as leaders and citizens unite for Nigeria’s betterment,” he said.
The vice president also commended Governor Ododo for initiating the Kogi Dialogue, calling it a crucial step towards reconciliation and progress. He encouraged leaders at all levels to focus on collaboration and dialogue to resolve differences and promote unity across the nation.

“Dialogue is more than just a way to express concern, it is the foundation for justice, understanding, and reconciliation,” he stated.
Governor Ododo, in his speech, expressed appreciation for the unwavering support from the people of Kogi and the federal government. He spoke about the state’s abundant resources and stated the importance of harnessing its human, natural, and material potential to drive Kogi’s development.
Ododo also detailed the significant progress made during his first year, including improvements in healthcare, education, and infrastructure and announced the introduction of free education at the basic level and bursaries for students in higher institutions as part of his administration’s commitment to long-term development.
