Zamfara state government has disclosed that it recorded zero polio pandemic within the last one year.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Aisha MZ Anka, made the disclosure at a One Day Town Hall Meeting on the Upcoming Integration Measles Vaccination Campaign in Gusau on Friday.
According to her, the success was as the result of all stakeholders’ collaborative efforts in routine immunisation.
She commended the WHO, UNICEF, GAVI, and other development partners for their unwavering support to the government of Zamfara state, adding that without them, the state would be unable to accomplish the success recorded.
The commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Malam Bashir Surajo Gusau, said further that the state government “will do everything possible to eradicate polio and measles to 60% by the end of 2025.”
In his remarks, the state Coordinator of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Raji, said “Zamfara state is one of Nigeria’s best performing states.
He pledged WHO’s support and urged the state to ensure that all the targeted populations were reached, “especially those in underserved areas who are most vulnerable to the disease to prevent outbreaks in 2025.”
