The Nigerian Youth have been urged to leverage the vocational centres established by the government to learn digital and other vocational skills in order to be productive and useful to themselves and contribute positively to national development.
They were also advised to use online and social media platforms to promote the country’s cultural heritage, national cohesion, peace and unity, which are critical to engendering national development.
The Emir of Kaura Namoda in Zamfara State, Major Sanusi Muhammad Asha (rtd), gave the advise during a media event at the Kaura Namoda emirate.
“Youth are said to be the heartbeat of any nation’s progress and development because of their energies, talents, creativity and innovative ideas, hence the call for them to harness their potential for National development.
“I am advising our youth to bring in innovative ideas which could help them to contribute to the Country’s development”. He said
The Emir further appealed to political office holders, and public-spirited individuals to contribute to empowering the youth so that they can become useful to the Society.
In his remarks , the Zamfara State Head of Service, Alhaji Yakubu Haidara, reminded the youth that they are leaders of tomorrow, noting that they can be leaders in the future only when they acquire a sound education or learn skills which will prepare them for leadership positions.
Also speaking , the Zonal Secretary, Northwest of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), comrade Abdulrazak Bello, who presented a paper on the role of online media in national development, admonished media practitioners to uphold ethical standards in their reporting to avoid spreading fake news, instead promoting unity and peaceful co-existence among Nigerians.
