The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Zamfara state, has conducted its state assembly primary election for Kaura Namoda South state constituency where Muhammad Lawal Kurya emerged as substantive candidate of the party.
Speaking with newsmen in Gusau, the state secretary of the party, Naziru Ibrahim Rufai, said the primary election was supervised by the officials of the state Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), delegates from the national headquarters of the party as well as security agencies.
According to him, 14 persons indicated their interest to contest for the bye election out of which nine were voluntarily step down, noting that the remaining four candidates have purchased the form to contest for the election.
“Shortly after they were given the forms, a stakeholders meeting was held and after due consultations, three of them have agreed to step down to Muhammad Lawal Kurya, now he is our substantive candidate for the forthcoming August 16 state assembly bye election under Kaura Namoda South state constituency”. He said
The party secretary stated that PDP would win the election with landslide victory against the APC considering the tremendous developmental changes the state government under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal had provided that have direct impact to the entire people in the state within two years of his administration.
The secretary urged members and supporters of PDP and supporters to remain law abiding during and after the bye election of the state assembly constituency in Kaura Namoda scheduled to hold on the 16th August.
