The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, has dismissed threats from the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, insisting that he will visit Edo State whenever he wishes without seeking permission.
Obi made this statement on Thursday during a visit to his alma mater, Christ The King College (CKC), Onitsha, Anambra State, where he donated N50 million on behalf of the school’s old boys to support ongoing development efforts by the management.
Speaking to newsmen after the event, Obi reacted to a recent warning issued by Governor Okpebholo, who reportedly stated that the former Anambra State governor should not enter Edo State again without first seeking clearance from the government. The governor allegedly claimed Obi’s safety could not be guaranteed otherwise.
Obi, however, waved off the threats, stating, “I’m used to receiving threats. I will go to Edo any time I want.”
The donation event at CKC was graced by dignitaries including the Archbishop of the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke, as well as members of the college management and students. The senior prefect of the school, Ejike Ekene, led the student body in receiving the guest.
During his remarks, Obi praised the school’s management for what he described as “phenomenal work,” and stressed the need for public office holders, including Governor Okpebholo, to support public institutions rather than engage in threats.
Obi revealed that he and some of his fellow alumni decided to support the school with the funds to further its developmental goals. In their separate speeches, Archbishop Okeke and Senior Prefect Ekene lauded Obi’s contributions to education and his commitment to building a better Nigeria.
