As parts of efforts to strengthen community resilience and promote durable solutions to the persisting humanitarian crisis in Yobe state, African Youths for Peace Development and Empowerment Foundation (AFRYDEV) in partnership with Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI) with Funding from the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF) held a week-long capacity-building training for government stakeholders, NGOs/CBOs and community members on Governance and service delivery in Geidam & Yunusari LGAs.
The capacity-building training is part of other activities under the project aimed at improving access to basic services and livelihood through rehabilitation of community infrastructures, Vacations Skills Training (VST), and Income generation activities (IGA).
Declaring the training opened, the Programme Manager, Mr. Ishaku, urged the participates to ensure they give maximum and undivided attention to the training.
On his remarks, Geidam LGA chairman, represented by the Community Development Officer (CDO) Mal. Ali Kolo, said “we all know what we are facing in our communities and country at large, Boko haram, bandits, kidnapping, which is as a result of bad or poor governance.
“The training is coming at the right time when the election is a few months, it is our collective responsibility to ensure we vote in a candidates that will pilot governance as this training has given us a clear way and reminded us of our collective responsibilities towards achieving good governance in our society,” he said.
A participant, Fati Bello from Yunisari LGA said, “ This is indeed a great and informative training, it is a call to everyone present here to safe our country from the state it is now, we must all awake from our slumber by ensuring we stop all forms of corruption in the country, considering all the topic treated.
“I feel is a reminder to us all as stakeholder from various department agencies and NNGO to practice and imbibe the culture of good governance in our various department for a good and sustainable society”, she added.
