Yobe education rejuvenation best recovery process – Swiss Ambassador

The Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Nicolas Lang, has said the investment in education by Yobe state government to rejuvenate the sector is the best recovery process from insurgency.

A statement by Director General Press and Media  Affairs Government House Damaturu Mamman Mohammed, quoted Lang as saying this  in Abuja Thursday when Governor Buni paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

He said without quality education, there will be no development and progress for the state, any society, or nation.

“I am happy to learn that Yobe state government has engaged in training and retraining of teachers as part of the process to rejuvenate basic education in the state,” he said.

The ambassador assured of the continued support of the Swiss government to the northeast states of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe.

He lamented that inaccessibility to the state in the past had denied the state of some interventions.

Lang said emphasis would be given to education, agriculture, and healthcare delivery to support the government and people of Yobe state.

In his remarks, Governor Buni informed the ambassador that all communities displaced by the insurgency had been resettled except Malundunari community, which the state government, in collaboration with a development partner, was working towards its resettlement.

He said the government provided infrastructure in the communities to facilitate their resettlement with dignity.

“We provided schools, health facilities, water, roads, and others for smooth resettlement of the communities, Buni said.

The governor said although the displaced persons were supported with means of livelihood, the need for more support, especially in agriculture, is key and necessary.

“Agriculture is the mainstay of our people. The returnees need more support in agriculture for a sustainable means of livelihood.

“When there is support in agriculture and infrastructure, these would not only encourage the people to stay in their communities but would also curb rural-urban drift,” Governor Buni said.

The governor expressed the state government’s readiness to partner with the Swiss government to improve the lives of the people of the state.
