Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni, Wednesday, officially launched ethical re-orientation campaign (Operation Gyaran Hali) in the state.
The campaign which was organised by Yobe state Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-orientation (MORAER) is expected to induce positive attitudinal change in the society.
Speaking at the occasion which took place at the Art and Cultural Center Auditorium Hall in Damaturu, Governor Buni said the event is timely considering the decay and rot in moral values, and the decadence in cultural and religious ethics in the society, especially among the youth.
Governor Buni said traditionally, since the days of the old Kanem Bornu Empire and with the influence of Islam, our societies and communities were reputable in honesty, faithfulness and integrity among others, but sadly, these moral virtues continue to degenerate over time.
He noted that the increasing consumption of illicit substances, especially drugs is worrisome and calls for immediate and strategic action to stem the growing tide to save the communities, state and country.
“It therefore becomes imminent for all stakeholders including the government, traditional rulers, religious leaders, parents and guardians to join hands with the security agencies in the war against illicit substances and drugs.
“Most crimes are tied to drug consumption. Therefore, parents should expose their wards engaged in drug related activities rather than shield them for us to have a sane and productive youth and future,” he said.
