Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Netherlands international Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £51.8m (€60m).

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, who was courted by several top European clubs this summer, described the move as “a dream come true” after completing his medical and penning a long-term contract with Spurs.

Simons joined Leipzig on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023 before making the switch permanent in January 2025. During his time in Germany, he scored 22 goals and provided 24 assists in 78 appearances.

At international level, Simons has also been a key figure for the Netherlands, netting five goals in 28 caps since making his debut at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

“I’m really happy and can’t wait to get going,” Simons said after being unveiled. “It’s a great club and when I met the head coach, I knew straight away that this was the right place for me.”

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank welcomed the new arrival, praising his blend of youth and experience: “Xavi is a great addition. Despite being just 22, he already has top-level experience and will bring real quality to our midfield.”

The Dutchman becomes Spurs’ third major signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Joao Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus.

Chelsea were also linked with Simons earlier in the window but instead turned their attention to Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, with a £40m move close to completion.
