Nigerian music superstar Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has achieved a historic milestone by surpassing 9 billion streams across all credits on Spotify, becoming the first African artist to reach this figure on the global streaming platform.

This achievement further solidifies Wizkid’s status as a leading figure in the global music scene. A major contributor to this success is his collaboration with Canadian rapper Drake and British singer Kyla on the global hit One Dance, which alone has amassed a staggering 3.7 billion streams. The track is among Spotify’s top 10 most streamed songs of all time and holds the Guinness World Record for being the first single to surpass 1 billion streams on the platform.

Wizkid’s most streamed lead single is the chart-topping Essence featuring Nigerian songstress Tems, which has garnered over 303 million streams on Spotify, earning critical acclaim and becoming a global summer anthem.

Despite Wizkid’s impressive record, American pop icon Taylor Swift remains Spotify’s most streamed artist overall, with over 1.5 billion streams.

Wizkid’s streaming milestone marks a major win for Afrobeats and African music on the global stage.
