Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Folasade Tolulope Ogunsola, has said the institution has dedicated a week in a year to review the university’s achievement and discuss strategic ways to make it globally relevant through international partnerships.
The VC stated this during the International Conference of the 4th edition of the University of Lagos 2024 International Week and 17th Annual Research Conference with the theme: “Inclusive Digital Transformation And The University Promise,” held at Tayo Aderinokun lecture Theatre hall, Unilag, Akoka, Lagos.
She stated that, this year’s theme reflects the concrete steps taken to integrate technology into every aspect of learning.
“Two sessions ago, we ran a pilot program where we obtained 250 licenses to give our STEM undergraduates access to courses on Coursera while the last session became a fully fledged programme embedded in our courses that allowed our students to enroll in world-class courses from institutions such as the University of California, San Diego, and IBM.
“We wanted this programme to encourage our undergraduate students to pace their learning in tandem with our traditional curriculum to give them a competitive edge in the digital world.
“So far, this program has impacted over 500 students across 2 departments. Given the success of this pilot, we have decided to expand its operations to other departments, as we aim to keep our promise to the University to build a future-ready environment as part of our efforts to build research capacity and graduate training in Nigeria,” she said.

She stated further that through the ARUA network, the university has two COEs, unemployment and skills development with urbanisation and habitable cities, adding that the last year’s ARUA formed an alliance with the EU Guild among 20 universities and has 21 centres of which 6 are in UNILAG.
She added that the university has also collaborated with Elsevier, to host a workshop that would train academic editors across all South West Nigerian universities on the best practices in academic publishing.
