A couple of months after being sworn in, a cloud of mystery hangs over the whereabouts and actions of Hon. Fatsuma Talba, the member representing Nangere/Potiskum constituency in the National Assembly.
While her colleagues across the country are bustling with activity, delivering on campaign promises, and tackling pressing issues, the silence from Yobe South is deafening.
Notwithstanding, communities across Nigeria are enjoying the dividends of democracy as their elected representatives roll out projects and initiatives, Nangere/Potiskum remains at a frustrating standstill. No empowerment programmes, no infrastructure improvements, no tangible signs of progress—constituents are left wondering if they have a ghost at the helm.
Just recently, Hon. Muktar Betara Aliyu, the member representing Bayo/Biu/Kwaya Kusar/Shani federal constituency, distributed more than 10 trailers each containing rice and semolina to alleviate the food crisis. Likewise, in Lagos, Hon. George Adegeye brought cheers to Amuwo-Odofin federal constituents with 683 bags of rice, cooking essentials, and cash gifts. These are just a few examples of representatives actively serving their people, leaving Nangere/Potiskum feeling like a forgotten outpost.
The question on everyone’s lips is: when will Hon. Talba emerge from the shadows and deliver on her promises? Or has she abandony the very people she swore to represent impartially?
Adding to the frustration, her presence in the constituency seems as elusive as her tangible contributions. Leaving her constituents with another hard question: Where has Hon. Talba been these past eight months? Has she even stepped foot in Nangere/Potiskum since the election?
The people of Yobe South deserve better. They deserve a representative who is visible, accountable, and dedicated to their well-being. Hon. Fatsuma Talba cannot simply disappear and expect her silence to be mistaken for progress. It’s time she shed the invisibility cloak, stepped up to the plate, and started delivering on the mandate entrusted to her.
Yobe South needs action, not silence. Hon. Fatsuma Talba, the time to deliver is now.
Kasim Isa Muhammad,
Potiskum, Yobe state.
