What music has taught me – Singer, Mapatricia

Budding Afrobeats singer, Mapatricia, with the real name, Mamuyoviw Frank, Mapatricia Ohwerhi, hasn’t been too long on the musical scene but has learnt a few things that has shaped his view of the industry he intends to be relevant for many years to come.

In a recent interview he said, “I think the most important lesson would be to stay in your lane, believe in your process and stay in your lane.”

On his most embarrassing experience, he said, “I am already laughing, so there was this time I went to perform and literally nobody acted as if I was there. I got the biggest L of my life, but I took it as negative energy to feed off. The secret is never to be put down by any situation but right now the fortunes have changed and people are loving my vibes.

Maptricia arrived on the scene just this year with two singles. His debut single “Money Biz” dropped in July of 2019 while second one “Light” was released in November, sending out a warning of strong intent that he’s not going to be a flash in the pan.

Talking about his journey into music and the influences that define his style, the singer said:“ I grew up in a heavily influenced musical family. I started music in the choir in Benin Republic and ever since then I couldn’t stop. I grew up all over the place; Nigeria, Benin Republic and South Africa. It was quite interesting, seeing a lot of diversities; cultures and peoples. It definitely affected my music in so many ways, I tilt towards highlife and soul,” he said.

“I am making amazing music, music is everything to me, from creating my music to listening to others, so, watch out for Mapatricia, because he’s coming to rule your space musically,” he added, talking about his music and the Nigerian Afrobeat sound.

On how he got his stage name, Mapatricia said, “My grandma’s name is Patricia and they used to call her Mapatricia. I have a striking resemblance to her. I couldn’t pronounce it when I was younger, so they started making fun of me about it. After she passed away when I was still little, people said I reminded them of her, so they started calling me ‘Mapatricia’ and it stuck from there. It is a name that means a lot to me. It has not just the story behind it but undying history that would remain forever dear to me.”

Mamuyoviw Frank, Mapatricia Ohwerhi, known simply as Mapatircia was born on July 3, 1995 in Sapele, Warri, Delta State.

He started music professionally in July of 2019. Before then, he was a backup to Tiwa Savage, Brymo and Femi Kuti.
