The Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the Nigerian Forest Guards in order to complement the efforts of the security personnel in curbing criminality in the nation’s forest.
Commandant General of NFSS, Joshua Osatimehin and DCG Intelligence, Dr. John Metchie, stated this at a press briefing in Abuja, Tuesday.
They explained that with over 48,000 personnel spread across states of the federation and its existing structures, NFSS is capable of carrying out the mandate of protecting the forests, noting that this move will go a long way in securing the nation.
“We are very committed to securing the nation’s forests and will not relent in our efforts to ensure we complement other security agencies in achieving this objective,” Osatimehin said.
The DCG Intelligence, Dr. John Metchie, also called on the president to do the needful in signing the bill seeking to establish the NFSS.
“Since the decision to establish the forest guards has been given by Mr President only time will tell how this will translate into actionable plans,” he said.
