West Ham United have turned down the chance to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana on loan, according to The Guardian.
The Hammers are seeking reinforcements between the sticks after summer signing Mads Hermansen, who arrived from Leicester City has failed to convince.
But the club reportedly made it clear that Onana, who has slipped down the pecking order at Old Trafford, is not viewed as an upgrade on their current options.
The 29-year-old Cameroon international was displaced by Altay Bayindir this season under new United manager Ruben Amorim, and was offered to West Ham as a possible solution.
However, the London club rejected the approach.
Onana featured in United’s Carabao Cup exit to League Two side Grimsby Town in midweek, where he struggled again. The goalkeeper was partly at fault for the Mariners’ second goal after misjudging a cross, and United eventually crashed out 12-11 on penalties following a 2-2 draw.
Meanwhile, West Ham continue to explore alternatives. Talks are ongoing with Hull City’s Ivor Pandur, while the club has also revived its interest in Botafogo’s John Victor, having previously reached an agreement in principle with the Brazilian over the summer.
Manager Graham Potter is under pressure to address the club’s goalkeeping woes. Hermansen has already conceded eight goals in two league matches, including three from set pieces against Chelsea last weekend. Backup goalkeeper Alphonse Areola also struggled in a 3-2 Carabao Cup defeat to Wolves.
