West Bromwich Albion boss, Alan Irvine, is hoping Brown Ideye will soon begin to meet high expectation place on his shoulder following his impressive showing during the club’s recent outings.
The Nigerian striker has struggled to make an impact at the Hawthornes since arriving from Dynamo Kiev in the summer and has only scored once for the Baggies despite being the club record signing.
However the West Brom boss reveals he has looked sharp in recent weeks.
“He’s actually trained the best he has trained in the last couple of weeks,” Irvine told Birmingham Mail.
“That’s not in terms of his application, which has always been good, but in terms of his effectiveness.
“So he’s certainly looking more like what we would hope he would look. He has scored goals in training.
“There was a time when he was struggling to do that. And I think he is feeling a lot better about himself.”
Ideye bagged a brace in West Brom’s 5-2 friendly win over Northampton on Tuesday night, while they face Aston Villa at home on Saturday.
