Kano state governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has disclosed that his administration’s vision in health care system was for the state to attain its maximum potential.
“It is this development that propelled our government to establish the Kano Cancer Centre and complete two mega abandoned health care facilities – Muhammadu Buhari Special Hospital and Sheikh Usyaka Rabi’u Paediatric Hospital – which are at about only 30% completion,” he said.
Ganduje made the disclosure Friday at the commissioning of the NSIA-Kano Diagnostic Centre constructed by the National Sovereign and Investment Authority (NSIA) at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, said further that the facilities were provided with modern equipment including 1.5 Tesla Machine, 4D Ultrasound scan, 16 slides CT Scan (2017 model).
“We have recorded tremendous progress in the provision of qualitative and affordable Drugs to healthcare facilities through the Drug Revolving Fund Programme that is being run in the state, and one of the best in Nigeria.”
On the effort being made to address drug abuse, he said, “The task force committee on fake, counterfeit drugs and unwholesome processed foods was established to address the rampant cases of drugs hawking and illegal opening of drug selling outlets with our due registration procedures.”
0n her part, the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed, said the NSIA had made various efforts aimed at improving health care delivery system in the country.
She called for proper utilisation of the Centre, urging the project coordinators to ensure that the less privileged benefitted from the services the Centre could offer.
Earlier, in his welcome remarks, the chief medical director of the hospital, Prof. Abdulrahman Abba Sheshe, said since the establishment of the hospital in 1988, the hospital grown over the years to a 700-bed capacity and expertise in many sub-specialties including renal transplanting.
