We are trying to rebuild trust between government, people in Nigeria – ProjectTrust

ProjectTrust has unveiled moves to deepen and institutionalized accountability, social inclusion systems and sustainability in governance across Nigeria.

The Public Relations Officer office of the Chief Executive Officer Connected Development (CODE), Nankpak Cirfat, made this known on Thursday during one day stakeholders and Community of Practice (CoP) engagement meeting which took place in Damaturu, Yobe state capital.

Mr Cirfat stated that the project was funded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacAuthur Foundation in Yobe, Anambra, Bayelsa, Jigawa, Osun and Kwara states with the goals to galvanise civil society organizations and Community Based Organizations by building a Community of Practice (CoP) in the respective states.

He noted that they hope to achieve and rebuild a trust between government and the people of Yobe state and Nigeria at large.

The PRO revealed that they discovered through a based line research carried out that there are wide trust deficit between the government and the people.

He said: “At the end of the project they do hope that people would have confidence in government as they are engaging through their community of practice (Cop)and citizens to be aware of their basic right and responsibilities as citizens in a democratic system so that in turn they will be able to tell government ABC this is your jurisdiction and government would do what the people are expected of at this particular time.

“Through this project, one of the key thing we do as an organization” CODE” is to develop a tools that means for the citizens to be able to norminate project best on community needs and expectations.”

A CoP member, Hassana Ibrahim Alkali, said the ProjectTrust ensures there is sustainability in trust between the government and the citizens.

“All things required Community of Practice(CoP),use of media and the government it self to come together and fine out the solution to the effects on how to build that trust.

“Our expectations is to see that there is higher level of trust between the government and the people and also to see that sustainability in that aspect,” he said.
