VP tasks Odogbolu old students on challenges of alma mater

Old students have been charged to always get committed to the growth and development of their alma mater as government alone cannot meet the challenges of the institutions.

Vice Principal of Odogbolu Grammar School, Odogbolu, Ogun state, Mr. E.O Oyibo gave the advice while receiving the 1984 set of the school, who came to mark their 40 years of leaving the school, and as well give back to the school by renovating a block of five classrooms.

Mr. Oyibo thanked them for deeming it fit to give back to the school while soliciting their assistance in helping to promote sporting activities. He also said the school required mowers for cutting grass.

“We appreciate your support, for even deeming it fit to give back to the school. Your 40th year anniversary is worth celebrating, and we need you to help develop the school facilities.

“Old students are those we rely on to bring development to the school, government can’t do much,” the vice principal said.

Speaking on the renovation, the president of the association, Bolade Ogunfodun, said it cost the association about N15 million and that the money was sourced from members and corporate organisations.

He said the renovated building was the classrooms they were admitted into when they gained admission into the school in 1979, explaining that they decided to adopt the building as theirs and committed to renovating it.

Speaking on assistance their set had rendered so far, one of the old students, Professor Adebola Osipitan, said they took it upon themselves to also render assistance to their members who are in need as well as assist their children to gain admission into higher institutions and provide job opportunities to them.

The General Secretary of the association, Bolade Odukoya, said they had been meeting as old students for more than 25 years and assisted the school in one form or the other by buying text books of major subjects for the students, providing metal chairs and desks and as well as paying salaries of extra teachers engaged to teach the students.
