Pope Francis made an unscheduled appearance in St. Peter’s Square on Sunday, April 6, 2925 despite ongoing health issues that have kept him from public events since mid-February.
Wearing a nasal cannula for supplemental oxygen, the 88–year-old arrived in a wheelchair as the Mass for the Jubilee of the Sick and Healthcare Workers concluded.
He waved to the crowd and made his way to the altar, where he offered a brief message: “Have a good Sunday. Thank you all!”
After the final blessing, Francis returned to his residence.
The pope, who typically offers a weekly noon prayer in St. Peter’s Square, has been unable to perform this duty since February 9, 2025.
