Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has described as false the video of a burning train on social media.
A viral video of the coach of a train on fire had gone viral on social media.
The Corporation explained that the said incident had happened along the Warri–Itakpe rail corridor, adding that it has put in place measures that will ensure an incident of such magnitude does not happen with the current safety mechanism and operations.
The Chief Public Relations Officer of NRC, Callistus Unyimadu, said the video does not reflect the current state of operations or safety on any of the NRC train services.
He said “We urged the general public to desist from sharing outdated or misleading content, as such actions only serve to incite unnecessary fear, panic, and misinformation. The circulation of false or outdated information undermines public trust and national development and should be strongly discouraged.”
Callistus affirmed that “NRC remains steadfast in its commitment to safety, comfort, and improved service delivery for all Nigerians. We continue to enhance our operations in line with international best practices and global safety standards.”
